About Me

So who’s actually going to be photographing my wedding? Who’s this guy with the silly hair? And what’s the deal with his sidekick??

Find out below!

Alan Snelling L.M.P.A

Professional Photographer. Musician, Family Guy, Cyclist, Hill-Walker & Self-confessed Lego Fanatic

Climbing Ben Lomond - this isn’t me photoshopped into a background - I really did it! Honestly! Gutted there wasn't a Starbucks at the top though….

(obviously I wiped the sweat away before this selfie)

I first picked up a camera back in high school but it was music that led me into the world of wedding photography in 2004. I was playing keyboards in a band and we went to a photography studio to have our photos done. You should’ve seen the state of us but that’s another story…

I became friends with the photographer and not long after, I got my first proper camera as a Christmas present (Thanks, Mum!). My photographer friend asked me if I wanted to try out the new camera at a wedding and the rest, as they say, is history!

I started Alan Snelling Photography in 2006 and haven’t looked back! I LOVE my job as a photographer!

Ever since then I’ve been doing this wedding thing full-time, gaining considerable industry experience & knowledge as well as proper, advanced photography skills along the way.

I’m a fully-qualified Master Photographer (ooooh! That sounds fancy!!) as well as an approved SQA Photography tutor & assessor, which is really just another way of saying that when it comes to photos, “I know my stuff” :-)

I also have a super-power! Name ANY song and I’ll ruin the words by overthinking it (if you want to test this out, get in touch!)

Marion “Mumsy” Snelling

Photography Assistant, swimmer, chief sandwich-maker & sticky toffee pudding expert

My sidekick is the (almost) famous “Mumsy”. Once a talented swimming teacher, now a professional photographer’s assistant, Mumsy is there to carry all my gadgets, organise your family and friends for group photos, make sure the wedding dress is laid-out nicely and generally help out in any way she can to make the photos and the wedding day run smoothly. She also takes the brunt of my jokes but, trust me, she gives as good as she gets (I had to write that because she reads all this stuff too!)

She’s also a dab-hand with a needle & thread, as well as putting in buttonholes and carries all sorts of goodies in her wee bag such as hair pins, crochet hooks & a sewing kit - she’s a handy lady to have at a wedding!

Basically, every wedding needs a Mumsy!

Of course the question everyone always asks is, where does the name “Mumsy” come from?? Well it’s not just a clever name - Marion also happens to be my Mum so when I say it’s a family business, I really mean it!

Alan is a fully-qualified member of the Royal Photographic Society, the Master Photographers Association, a founder member of the Scottish Wedding Industry Alliance, a recommended supplier of Rock My Wedding and a featured member of theMyWed directory.

We’re also winners of the 2024 Hitched Wedding Awards, voted as one of the best photographers in the UK by couples on Hitched.com!
