Alan Snelling

Professional Photographer. Musician, Family Guy, Cyclist, Hill-Walker & Self-confessed Lego Fanatic

I've been a professional wedding photographer near Edinburgh, Scotland for over 20 years and I genuinely love what I do.

I’m based near Edinburgh, but I photograph weddings all over Scotland (and sometimes beyond).

I’m proud to have received considerable industry recognition over the years and I'm also actively involved in photography tutoring and education - I'm the guy people come to for help mastering their photography skills.

All of this amazing experience I've had helps me deliver what matters most -  giving you a set of photos you’ll still love years down the line.

I'll even throw in some "Dad jokes" for free.....

I also have a super-power! Name ANY song and I’ll ruin the words by overthinking it (if you want to test this out, get in touch!)

How it all started

I first picked up a camera back in high school but it was music that led me into the world of wedding photography in 2004. I was playing in a band and we went to a photography studio to have our photos done (you should’ve seen the state of us but that’s another story…)

I became friends with the photographer and not long after, I got my first proper camera as a Christmas present (Thanks, Mum!). My photographer friend asked me if I wanted to try out the new camera at a wedding and the rest, as they say, is history - I started Alan Snelling Photography in 2006 and haven’t looked back since!

I’m a fully-qualified Master Photographer, with distinctions from the Royal Photographic Society and the Society of Wedding & Portrait Photographers, as well as being an approved SQA Photography tutor & assessor - which is really just another way of saying that when it comes to photos, “I really know my stuff” :-)

Some of my fave things:

  • My family - I literally wouldn't exist without them!

  • Coffee (I'm jacked-up on caffeine as a type this......)

  • Photography (obviously!) - taking photos, editing photos, making people laugh/cry with photos....it's all good!

  • Music - I'm a musician and regularly play live on stage

  • Movies - there’s nothing better than a good story.

  • Pizza (and yes, you CAN put pineapple on a pizza!)

  • Monty Python - I just love any kind of humour that takes things to the extreme

My ”WHY”

I've often been asked why I do what I do?

Besides the fact I love photography, I do it all for my amazing wee gang - my wife, daughter & our black catio (who often sits & watches me edit some of the amazing weddings I get to shoot).

More than that, photographing weddings lets me use my knowledge & experience to add value to other peoples' lives. The memories & photos I capture at every wedding become part of the fabric for the families I'm lucky enough to work with - preserving their precious memories for future generations.

What an amazing job to have!
